The thunderstorms passed by and at 6:30 p.m. 43 paddlers in 17 canoes and 13 kayaks left the starting line on Bolton Lake for the 20th Anniversary running of the Bolton Sunset Canoe and Kayak Race. They came from 17 towns in Connecticut,11 in Massachusetts,2 in New Hampshire and one each in Rhode Island and Vermont. Kayla Tomkiel and Natalie Pellegrini-both 13,came from Manchester while Dyck Cotrina,living in West Hartford,is from Peru.
  Ted Kenyon of Ellington started this race in 1984 and presented the Kenyon Kup to Kurt Nuhfer(short course)  for the fastest novice time. Present for the evening were three paddlers who raced in 1985-Ted Kenyon(paddler) and Geoff Latsha(crew) also John Scoville,for many years the organizer of the Hockanum River Race, raced with his daughter Sarah. On September 5th,the Scovilles will compete in the 90 mile Adirondack Classic  raising funds for the Hole In The Wall Camp.    It was another beautiful evening on the lake and a friendly and enjoyable competition.
